The Challenge
Vanilla is primarily cultivated in Madagascar, where social, environmental, economic and traceability challenges make the supply chain fragile.
It drives our strategic efforts to embed environmental, social and governance — plus sustainable solutions (ESG+)—into everything we do.
It is a pledge to our customers, stakeholders and to each other that we’re always striving to exceed expectations and fulfill our purpose to do more good for people and planet.”

IFF’s Sustainable Vanilla Program (SVP) seeks to secure a long-term, high-quality supply of responsibly sourced vanilla by ensuring that the surrounding community is also supported.
In partnership with the Union for Ethical Biotrade, the SVP is increasing the productivity of +1,500 local farmers and enhancing local livelihoods by focusing on:
“Since joining the cooperative, I’ve learned new skills that truly support my family. Whether it’s training in farming, poultry raising or sewing, I can improve our land, earn additional income and reduce my expenses. Being part of this group also helps me manage our finances, and the cooperative gives us better prices for our vanilla. These opportunities give me confidence that my children and I can build a more stable, brighter future.”
ENVIROCAP™ is IFF’s next generation scent delivery technology engineered to meet rising expectations for sustainability, compliance and performance in fabric care.
Built around a proprietary, nature-inspired biopolymer, this technology sets a new benchmark in sustainable scent delivery by combining long lasting fragrance performance with biodegradable, vegan suitable, ECHA-compliant and future-ready design for fabric care applications. This new innovation reduces environmental impact without compromising sensory quality or cost efficiency.
“ENVIROCAP™ is a prime example of partnership and persistence, beginning with open and unreserved knowledge sharing. It took more than four years of cross-team collaboration to overcome various challenges for development and commercialization, including creating polymers stable enough to maintain shelf life but ‘unstable’ enough to biodegrade after use. I’m proud to have been part of the team delivering this ECHA-compliant solution to consumers.”
